Music Bio
AZ-based musician, Matthew Sabey Smith, remains true to his singer/songwriter roots as a performing artist. Since beginning his recording career on an old tape recorder in his bedroom at the age of twelve, Smith has continued to write music and hone his craft over several decades. As a teenager, Smith encountered chronic lung-health issues which hampered his ability to perform. After years of inconclusive doctor visits, Smith decided to take matters into his own hands and pursued a doctoral degree in traditional Chinese medicine. This journey ultimately enabled him to overcome his condition, which he later channeled into the song "Water, Wood, Fire, Metal & Earth." Now celebrated for his wide vocal range and stamina, Smith has opened for renowned artists such as Raining Jane, Graham Colton, The Ballroom Thieves, Humming House, and Mal Blum.
His most recent album, “Maunder”, was created with the combined efforts of Inner Skies Studio and The County-Line. The Maunder album is the timeline of Smith’s life from a kid who grew up in the northeastern united states and decided he was being called to move out west, marry the woman of his dreams, have children, face utter tragedy and pack everyone up in a converted van to travel the country to search for meaning and purpose once again. In his spare time, Smith enjoys partaking in mountain sports, raising his son, and devoutly practicing Transcendental Meditation, Yoga and Qi-Gong on a daily basis. Smith always makes time to take care of his mind and body and hopes his example will inspire others to do the same. |
