"The Finest Edge"
I grew up with one goal in mind- to live like a mountain man. I was born with a love for the outdoors, in summer and especially winter, I feel at ease in the mountains. I recognize most folks don't have the same aspirations to hang their life on an 8.6 mm rope, sleep on mountain caps or slide two thin boards through staggering, jagged rock chutes...
But I do.
You see, mountains are more of a spiritual metaphor for my life. Like life, they can be beautiful, they can seriously beat you down, but no matter what, there is always a way up.
We could look at the mountains and appreciate their beauty from afar (as many do), but until we ride into the rugged wilderness, only then do we realize their true power. Only then do we experience the humbling and fascinating beauty the mountains contain.
When I lock in my bindings, hand jam a crag, or step through oxygen deprived elevations- I know I'm on the fringe of my own existence. But that is why it is so alluring. I make my art to exhibit how it feels to lean on the finest edge that separates me between life and death. So why do I do it? Because it is within these moments I feel most alive. Who wouldn't want a reminder like that on their wall?
