"Mountain Spirit"
Mountain Spirit 20"x16", Acrylic on Canvas
Winter has always been a time I would look forward to. I love to play in the snow, and the excitement has never faded. Hot tea, warm clothes and a clear night sky in the winter is a personal happy place. Being a lover of the mountains and winter is how Mountain Spirit was born.
I created this composition to show minutes before the sun fades completely into the horizon and shows a deep red color. I wanted to create the whole spectrum of light from day to night in one picture. This is why behind the mountains are red and the the top of the canvas is purple and black. The snow wraps around the undisturbed lake so the viewer has the perspective from higher ground on the other end of the lake. I pictured it as if I was making camp for the night under the stars with a warm fire just letting my spirit flow as far and wide as I needed before climbing into my tent for the night. Pure bliss.
I was inspired by my grandmother when I created this painting. She would create beautiful oil paintings of the family "camp" in Maine and there was one in particular that always stood out to me that was a river in the winter time. That painting was part of the driving influence to create this winter based artwork,
