Ponderosa pines are an invasive species located in the Flagstaff, Arizona area. This picture is of a Ponderosa Pine and it represents the hardened nature of being away from home. As someone who moved away from his home straight out of college, I went through "the school of hard knocks" for many years, learning by trial and error being cast into the fire. Ponderosa Pines invaded the land, and are exposed to freezing temperatures, forest fires. The greatest yin and yang that could be experienced in nature. Callused Bark represented my transition, "invading" a land far from my comfort zone, looking to establish what it meant to be home once again. It hardened my exterior, beat me up, but in the end made me a man. Becoming callused in life is a sign of growing up, becoming wiser and our calluses simply give us something tangible to show for it.
